ee Hockey Tutorial 9 - The Player Game Log

Player game logs can be entered manually, or created and updated automatically, and subsequently rolled up into Player Stats.

(see 'ee Hockey' in the Google Play Store)

Manual vs. Automatic Entry:
  • If one updates game score directly, without updating scores via a game log, then player statistics can be entered manually for a player for each game so scored
  • If one updates game scores via a game log, then player statistics are automatically entered for a player for each game so scored.
Notes:
  • If keeping track of the number of games played for a player is important, one must still create a player game log manually for players which have no events during a game to record that a game against the opponent was played. In this case, one should update the number of minutes played (Minutes-On-Ice) in the game.
  • Even if a player has events in a game's game log, and a player game log is created, it is still necessary to update the player game log with the number of minutes (Minutes-On-Ice) played, if it matters to the user.
  • Minutes on Ice must be updated manually in the player game log because it would be tedious to enter an event for every player recording the minutes on ice at the end of every game (i.e., period 3 or overtime).
  • Under consideration is the usefulness of entry of Shots On Goal as a valid event. For player-skaters, it is manageable to enter Shot events, but for player-goalies, it might prove to be too tedious.
  • When there is a game log, updating fields other than the Minutes on Ice in a player game log, will be overwritten if updates to the game game log are later updated for the same player.
